The rail trail
The Ashokan Rail Trail runs along the reservoir on the former Ulster and Delaware line, with free trailhead lots at Ashokan Station on NY-28 and the Boiceville Bridge on NY-28A.
Walkers and cyclists park, go out along the water, and come back — usually within a couple of hours rather than the all-day stays a mountain trail produces. The reservoir promenade adds more of the same.
It’s genuine parking but it’s short-dwell and seasonal, and we’re not going to pretend it’s Beacon station. This page is short because the town is quiet.
Fifteen miles to a dealer
Olive has no dealership of any kind. The nearest franchised stores are in Kingston, roughly fifteen miles east.
That’s the longest dealer gap in our eastern Ulster coverage, and it’s the practical fact for anyone whose car won’t start here. Fifteen miles of NY-28 in a working car is twenty minutes. In one that won’t move it’s a tow, and out here that’s not a quick one.
