Every kind, one call

Marbletown’s one significant car park belongs to SUNY Ulster at Stone Ridge, and unlike most campuses it’s free. That sounds like a small detail and it changes how long cars sit there.

SUNY Ulster

The main campus covers 165 acres off US-209 with around 3,091 students — roughly a thousand full-time and two thousand part-time.

The part-time majority matters. A part-time student’s car isn’t there nine to five; it’s there for a three-hour evening class, or a morning block twice a week. Which means the lots have cars arriving and leaving at hours when a permit campus would be empty, including after dark.

Free parking, longer stays

Campus parking here is free surface lots, with permits issued from Hasbrouck Hall rather than metered spaces.

No meter means no deadline. On the Brewster page we wrote about a sixteen-hour limit turning a lockout into something with a clock on it. Here the opposite applies — a car can sit as long as it needs to, which removes the time pressure but also means nobody notices it’s stuck.

If your car is stranded on campus overnight, that’s less urgent than a metered lot but no less inconvenient in the morning.

No dealer here

Marbletown has no franchised dealership. The nearest are in Kingston, about twelve miles north-east.

Twelve miles is nothing if the car drives. If it doesn’t, it’s a tow, and that’s the whole argument for coming to the vehicle instead.

Our comparison of the options covers what each can do.

What to have ready

  • Which campus lot, or the road and nearest crossroads
  • Year, make and model
  • Whether you have any working key
  • Whether you’re a student, and where your spare actually is
  • Proof of ownership — registration or title, and matching photo ID

How quickly we get there. Most calls in Marbletown are reached within about an hour, sometimes longer at rush hour or with bridge traffic. You get a real arrival time on the phone before we set off.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come out to Stone Ridge?

Yes — Marbletown is inside our coverage, across the river and down US-209.

Is there a dealer in Marbletown?

No. The nearest franchised dealers are in Kingston, roughly twelve miles away.

I’m at an evening class and my car won’t start.

Tell us which lot. Evening calls on campus are common here because so much of the enrolment is part-time.

My spare key is at home in another county.

Then a new key made at the car is usually faster than fetching it, and it leaves you with two.

My fob stopped working after the car sat all week.

Battery first — it’s the quickest thing to rule out. See our key fob battery guide.
