Every kind, one call
New Windsor contains half of Stewart International Airport and not one car dealership. The dealer strip everyone uses is over the line in Newburgh — which matters a great deal if your car is sitting in a long-stay lot and can’t get there.
Stewart
The airport straddles New Windsor and Newburgh, run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and handled around 237,000 passengers in 2025. Stewart Air National Guard Base sits alongside it.
We’ve written about airport parking on the Newburgh page and the situation is identical from this side: cars left for days, drivers landing late and tired, and a spare key that is by definition somewhere else.
The one thing worth repeating because it prevents the call entirely — if your fob has been at all temperamental, change the battery before you fly. Two minutes at home beats an hour in a car park at midnight. Our key fob battery guide covers it.
No dealer here
New Windsor has no franchised new-car dealership. Used lots, yes; a franchise for any make, no.
The Route 17K cluster — nine or so stores — sits just across the town line in Newburgh. Close, and irrelevant to a vehicle that won’t start, because a car in the long-stay lot can’t drive to Route 17K any more than it can drive to Albany.
That’s the sharpest version of the argument in this part of the county, and it’s why the airport and the dealer gap belong on the same page.
Our comparison of the options covers what each can actually do.

Storm King
Storm King Art Center at Mountainville sits on the New Windsor and Cornwall line, with one large consolidated seasonal lot.
Open-air museum parking is a full-day proposition — people walk five hundred acres. It’s seasonal, unlike the airport, but when it’s open the lot fills with visitors who are a long way from their cars for a long time.
What to have ready
- Where the car is — which airport lot, Storm King, or a road
- If it’s Stewart, which lot and roughly where
- Year, make and model
- Whether you have any working key, and where it is
- Whether you’ve just landed
- Proof of ownership — registration or title, and matching photo ID
