Chester’s unattended parking is a park-and-ride at the Route 17 interchange, and the interchanges themselves are changing — Exit 127 is slated to close as part of the Route 17 work.

The park-and-ride

The NY-94 park-and-ride sits near Exit 126, which makes it a carpool and coach lot rather than a rail one — there’s no station in Chester.

Same pattern as Fishkill and Kingston: people leave a car and get into somebody else’s. When they come back and can’t get in, the person who drove them has usually gone home, and there’s no train to wait for.

The exits are changing

Worth knowing if you’re navigating here, because directions given a year ago may not hold.

The Route 17 corridor is being rebuilt toward interstate standard as I-86, and Exit 127 is slated to close with traffic redistributed to 126 and 128.

If you’re telling us where your car is, the road and a landmark beat an exit number during roadworks. That applies to anyone you call, not just us.

No dealer here

Chester’s village centre has no franchised dealership. The nearest are Healey Brothers Ford Lincoln at Goshen and W.S. Healey Chevrolet at New Hampton, both on Route 17M.

And to clear up a common assumption: LEGOLAND is in Goshen, not Chester — see our Goshen page if that’s where your car actually is. The two towns adjoin and people mix them up.

Our comparison of the options covers the alternatives.

What to have ready

  • The road and a landmark rather than an exit number
  • Year, make and model
  • Whether you have any working key
  • Whether you carpooled — it changes what’s realistic
  • Proof of ownership — registration or title, and matching photo ID

How quickly we get there. Most calls in Chester are reached within about an hour, sometimes longer at rush hour or with bridge traffic. You get a real arrival time on the phone before we set off.

Frequently asked questions

Is LEGOLAND in Chester?

No — it’s in Goshen next door, with its own interchange. See our Goshen page.

Is there a dealer in Chester?

Not in the village centre. The nearest are Goshen and New Hampton, both on Route 17M.

Which exit should I give you?

Give us the road and a landmark instead. The Route 17 rebuild means exit numbers are changing — 127 is slated to close.

I carpooled from the park-and-ride and I’m stuck.

Common here. Tell us which lot and what you drive; we come to the car.

My fob stopped working.

Battery first. See our key fob battery guide.
